這個故事發生在很早以前。三歲的女兒浪費了一卷金色的包裝紙，父親懲罰了她。當時家裏生活很拮据，所以看到女兒用金色包裝紙裝飾盒子，並把它掛到聖誕樹上時，父親非常生氣。第二天早上，小姑娘把聖誕禮物送給父親，說道：“爸爸，這是送給您的。”
父親爲自己先前的大動肝火而懊悔不已，但當他打開盒子發現裏面什麼也沒有時，又生氣了。他對小姑娘大聲嚷道：“難道你不知道送別人禮物時，裏面應該放東西嗎？”小姑娘抬頭望着父親，眼中噙滿了淚水，她哭着說：“爸爸，這個盒子不是空的。我吹了許多吻放在裏面，這些吻都是送給您的，爸爸。”
父親頓時羞愧難當，他張開雙臂擁抱着女兒，乞求女兒原諒他。
