Iveseenhimsittingquietly,ensively,asiftryingtolookbeyondthedistantbluehills,andIwishedIcouldreadhisthoughts,andfathomthesoulinthosesadbrowneyes。Theywerealwaysaealing,theeyesofatrustinghellessone,onedeendentonhumankindness,andIcouldntthinkofanyonewantingtoberudetohim,orbeingunwillingtoshareafriendlymealifhehaenedtobearoundwhenthedinnerbellrang。Hewassoareciativeofattention,thoughheneveroverdidit,ormadeyoufeelthathewasonlyniceforwhattherewasinit。Somanycanbenicewhentheyarelookingforsomerofit。Thisfellowwasmorethankfulforakindwordthanforanyothergift。Hesimlycouldntbehaywithoutbelievingthehumanworldwasafriendlyone。Youhavemetthiskind。Idontmeanthewhiners,thefellowsthatbeg,butthegenuinelykindsoulthatgiveshimselfandhisfriendshiandloveandonlyasksareturninkind。
